Pontnewynydd AFC Reserves Welcome New Management Duo
Pontnewynydd AFC are delighted to announce an exciting new chapter for our Reserve Team, as we welcome Mark “Towie” Townsend as Manager and Leyton Griffiths as Coach ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The experienced duo join us from Lucas Cwmbran AFC, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and footballing insight. Both Mark and Leyton have earned strong reputations for developing players and building competitive teams, and we’re confident their arrival marks the beginning of an ambitious new era for our Reserves side.

As we welcome new leadership, we also say a heartfelt thank you to Matt Taylor, who recently stepped down from his role as Reserve Team Manager before the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
Matt remained committed to the team through his final match in charge — a competitive fixture against Pontypool Town — and now steps away to focus on continuing his playing career.
Everyone at Pontnewynydd AFC would like to express our deep gratitude to Matt for his time, energy, and dedication to the Reserves. His leadership and support have been invaluable, and he leaves with our full respect and best wishes.
Wherever Matt’s journey takes him next, he will always be part of the Pontnewynydd AFC family.
🎉 One Last Appearance – Presentation Night 2025
Matt’s not done just yet — he will return for one final appearance as co-host of our End-of-Season Presentation Night on May 30th, where he’ll help present awards for the Reserve Team. We look forward to celebrating with him and showing our appreciation in style!
