Football Fixtures October 16th

Pontnewynydd AFC football fixtures for October 16th 2021. Pontnewynydd AFC host New inn AFC at the Ruffets whilst the reserves travel to Fairfield united.

It has been several weeks since the first team last had a fixture. This weekend marks their return to competitive football and to the Ruffets as they host New Inn AFC in the league.

The reserve team come off an impressive cup performance against Mardy AFC this past weekend taking the league favourites all the way to a penalty shoot-out.

Pontnewynydd AFC Reserve team hosted Mardy AFC reserves in the first round of the Benevolent cup. The fixture was originally scheduled for the previous week but was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Pontnewynydd took an early lead with Stephen Farr converting a spot-kick just 20 minutes into the game. The lead would be extended when Wayne Saunders of Mardy would concede an own goal.

HT 2-0

Mardy would claw 2 goals back within the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half with goals from Mark Hughes. Callen Gregory would then put Mardy into the lead with a perfect free-kick. Stephen Farr would get his 2nd goal in the 67th minute brought the fixture back level.

FT 3-3

8 minutes into extra time Mark Hughe would claim his hat-trick once again putting Mardy into the lead. Pontnewynydd would proceed to press Mardy until a late challenge in the box gave Stephen Farr the chance to gain his hat-trick and draw the game’s level with minutes to spare.

ET 4-4

Mardy eventually won the fixture in a penalty shoot-out.
